Carros, Nepente di Oliena - Fratelli Puddu - Sardinian red wine

Nepente Carros is probably the most interesting wine of the Fratelli Puddu of Oliena, a Nepente di Oliena Cannonau di Sardegna DOC Classico, with a traditional character but of great elegance.

Carros is born from the Orbuddai vineyard, at the foot of Mount Corrasi, in the countryside of Oliena, we have a spurred cordon pruning, from fairly young age and a yield of about 50-60 quintals per hectare.

A terroir distinguished by a granite soil, capable of giving the wines minerality and freshness, and a cool climate in the evening and sunny during the day, therefore capable of excellent temperature ranges, essential for fixing the aromatic components in the grape skins.

Thanks to a careful selection, the best grapes are harvested manually and subjected to de-stemming, with fermentation at controlled temperatures in special stainless steel containers.

Once the alcoholic fermentation has been completed, Carros is transferred into oak barrels of fifty hectoliters, where it stays for about twelve months before final refining in the bottle.

Of a beautiful intense ruby ​​red color, veined by warm violet reflections, this wine stands out on the nose for intense and rather crunchy fruity notes, of marasca and prunes, spicy, woody and even floral.

In the mouth remains a warm and soft wine, dry, with freshness and delicate tannins: the structure is satisfying, and the aromas, intense and fine, persist pleasantly.

The name Nepente was used by Gabriele d'Annunzio in his letter to praise the wine tasted in Oliena. We quote the text: (Do not know the Nepente of Oliena not even for fame? Ahi lasso! I'm sure you took a sip, you would never want to leave the shade of white cliffs), elected by Nuoro proverbial name for the Cannonau made in Oliena, which over time became a subzone of the Cannonau di Sardegna DOC.
