Marzemino. Trentino Doc - Letrari - Italian wine
Among the myriad anecdotes that “adorn” the history of Marzemino, the passions of Austria’s most renowned composer are amply exhibited in his opera, Don Giovanni, in which Marzemino is fulsomely praised. If that weren’t enough, there are endless tributes to this “wine of emperors” and “wine of the Doges.”

Why such acclaim? The variety was planted in the Vallagarina, in Rovereto, where we live, during the era of Venetian dominance, and the wine immediately became the wine of choice of Venice’s ruling class. The reason is not hard to fi nd, since the grape found in our local growing area perfect conditions to achieve the rich fl avours and aromas that it failed to fi nd
elsewhere.
Our Marzemino Trentino DOC is a dry red, showing a purple-tinged ruby,
especially in its youth. The bouquet releases scents of fruit, above all of blueberry and raspberry, along with fl oral notes of violets, classic to this
terroir. It is remarkably smooth and long-lingering in the mouth, concluding with a pleasantly bitterish note on the fi nish. Marzemino is delicious with
fi rst courses, barley soups, and even with both red and lighter meats if they are not too highly spiced
