Helichrysum Liqueur made by Distillerie Lussurgesi in Santu Lussurgiu (Sardinia).

Anima Sarda liqueurs are born from a deep passion for the craft traditions of this unique land. The use of pure raw materials and excellent quality: the water is from the San Leonardo mountain source, just outside the municipality of Santu Lussurgiu and the essences, herbs, fruits and spontaneous aromas are those located in the most pristine areas of the countryside . Wines and marc for spirits and grappas are self produced or selected from trusted producers. Finally the discontinuous stills and the rest times that are left to the products before being put on the market do the rest.

Anima sarda, Helichrysum liqueur - Distillerie Lussurgesi - Sardinian food

Liqueur obtained from the alcoholic maceration of the flowering tops of the helichrysum harvested in Sardinia; rich in aromas and healing substances. The resulting liqueur retains its color and is rich in aromas that blend gently from curry to licorice.

Color: straw yellow; intense and evolved fragrance. Strong taste, with a pleasant and characteristic helichrysum aroma.

Helichrysum properties and curiosity: the ELICRISO from the Greek "helios" = sun and "Chrysos" = gold, for the intense gold color of the flowers that shine in the sunlight. The Greek and Roman priests appreciated it so much that they used to crown the statues of the gods with these flowers which also possess another peculiarity: although they become dry, they never decompose, resisting over time with great brilliance. The subspecies of the genus Helichrysum, the italicum microphyllum is exclusive to Sardinia, Corsica and the Balearics. The plant, perennial herbaceous, characteristic of the low Mediterranean scrub, widespread in uncultivated and stony places, sunny and arid, is found above all in Sardinia, from the coasts up to over a thousand meters of altitude, on soils with good sun exposure. It has the particularity of being completely covered by a thick whitish down that gives off a characteristic aroma. This plant is recognized as having therapeutic properties such as sweat, astringent, asthma, as a soothing antineuralgic and digestive. Sardinian name: depending on the area, it is called: Archimissa - Erva 'and Santa Maria, vrore' and Santu Juvanne - Allu 'and fogu - Bruschiadina / u- Buredda - Uscradina / u and in the territory of Santu Lussurgiu Frore de Santu Chirigu

Dilution and Assembly: mixed in a variable ratio with hot sugar syrup and alcoholic maceration of the helichrysum flowers, then filtered to obtain the character of our liqueur.

An Old World plant of the daisy family. Some kinds are grown as everlastings, retaining their shape and color when dried.

Olive trees planted in full sun look their best surrounded by scented herbs and silver-grey Mediterranean plants: helichrysum , lavender and rosemary.

For more foliage interest, the designers added ‘Tuscan Blue’ rosemary and bronze flax (both mostly vertical), plus lavender, thyme, helichrysum , lamb's ears, and other plants with a more mounding habit.

These helichrysums are grown for their soft decorative foliage and produce masses of the stuff within weeks of being planted out.

All the plants are new with the exception of a helichrysum which has made it through two winters with only a little frost damage to the ends of its long stems.

After revealing I had permanently frozen feet and a persistently runny nose, I lay down flat on the bed while Julie dabbed helichrysum - a soothing, healing flower essence - on all the acupuncture points she was going to use.
