Description

Nascimento - Podere Guardia Grande

The Nascimento by Podere Guardia Grande represents the essence of a bold and meticulously crafted winemaking project located in the heart of the Nurra area of Alghero. This Cannonau di Sardegna DOC is born in an extraordinary soil and climate environment within Porto Conte Regional Park, where the vineyards overlook the sea and are constantly caressed by the Mistral wind. The distinctive soils, characterised by the renowned red earth rich in clay and iron compounds, give the wine a unique personality, distinguished by an uncommon finesse and mineral tension compared with more traditional expressions of the grape variety. The estate’s production philosophy seeks to translate the light and energy of this corner of Sardinia into the glass, offering a red wine with a profound Mediterranean character.

The production of Nascimento follows rigorous artisanal standards, with the aim of enhancing the freshness and fragrance of the fruit. Vineyard management focuses on maintaining a balanced vegetative and productive cycle, ensuring that the bunches reach perfect ripeness while remaining healthy and rich in aromatic precursors. During the hand harvest, the grapes are picked into small crates and quickly transported to the estate’s modern underground winery, designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape and to manage the transformation processes by taking advantage of natural thermal inertia. This approach minimises environmental impact while ensuring the preservation of varietal freshness from the earliest stages of production.

During winemaking, Nascimento is handled with the utmost delicacy: fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, with careful extraction management designed to obtain only the most elegant and enveloping tannins. Ageing continues exclusively in stainless steel tanks for several months, a deliberate technical choice designed to prevent oak from masking the savoury and citrus character of Cannonau grown close to the cliffs of Alghero. The result is a wine distinguished by purity and verticality, where the warmth of the alcohol is masterfully balanced by vibrant freshness, making the palate dynamic and profound, a faithful reflection of the coastal ecosystem from which it originates.

A distinctive curiosity lies in the name Nascimento itself, which celebrates the beginning of this winemaking journey inspired by sustainable architecture and close observation of nature. On the palate and in appearance, the wine displays a vivid, luminous ruby colour. Its aromatic profile is dominated by ripe cherry and delicate sweet spices, enriched by a saline touch reminiscent of the sea breeze. On the palate, it is balanced, with a fine tannic structure leading to a persistent, mineral finish. It is recommended with traditional Sardinian dishes such as porceddu or pasta dishes with game-based sauces, but it also pairs exceptionally well with preparations featuring bluefin tuna or flavourful white meats, confirming its remarkable gastronomic versatility.
