Description

Messadore - Galavera

The Messadore wine from Galavera is born in the heart of Usini, an area with a long-standing reputation for producing outstanding wines in north-western Sardinia. The name chosen by the producer recalls the ancient and noble figure of the grain reapers, known as messadori, symbolising an unbreakable connection with the cycles of the land and the hard work of manual farming. This Cannonau di Sardegna DOC is produced in the Pirapeglias area, where predominantly clay soils located at around 200 metres above sea level provide ideal conditions for developing a rich aromatic profile and a balanced structure, typical of the finest expressions of this grape variety on the island.

Galavera’s philosophy focuses on enhancing the grape’s varietal character through careful, non-invasive winemaking techniques. The hand harvest allows only perfectly ripe, intact grapes to reach the cellar, preserving the quality that will ultimately be expressed in the glass. The winemaking process involves carefully controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, a technical choice designed to enhance the purity of Cannonau’s primary aromas without the influence of tertiary aromas from wood. This approach results in a fresh and vibrant wine that conveys, with remarkable clarity, the defining characteristics of the Usini terroir, kissed by the sun and constantly refreshed by sea breezes.

On the palate, Messadore stands out for its warm and enveloping opening, typical of the variety, while always supported by a pleasant freshness that encourages another sip. The aromas of red berries and plum come together in a harmonious palate, with well-integrated, velvety tannins. The finish is remarkably persistent, leaving a clean and consistent impression that reflects the wine’s aromatic profile. At the table, this red wine naturally pairs with dishes from the Mediterranean tradition, grilled red meats and first courses with rich, structured sauces. It also expresses itself beautifully alongside medium-aged pecorino cheeses, offering an authentic sensory experience deeply rooted in Sardinian traditions.

The decision to use exclusively stainless steel for ageing reflects Galavera’s desire to create a wine that faithfully represents both the vintage and the vineyard. Messadore is a Cannonau that relies on no artifices, but instead on the strength of excellent raw materials and the winemaking expertise developed through decades of experience in the vineyards. Every bottle produced in Usini is an invitation to discover a corner of Sardinia where winemaking remains an act of love and respect for the landscape. Attention to detail, from vineyard management through to bottling, ensures a high-quality wine that deservedly ranks among the most representative and authentic expressions of contemporary Sardinian wine production.
